Film remakes are really hit and miss, and they are becoming more and more common all the time. You see, whether it is going to be a statement of running out of quality ideas for new films or the idea that these older classics need to have a fresh spin with the new technology, the amount of remakes is on the rise. One of the recent editions to this every expanding list is A Nightmare on Elm Street 2010.
Well, the year is not necessarily included in the title, but it helps to distinguish it from the title that it was remade from. Through the course of these paragraphs, you are going to get a look at the new film through some of the key plot points. You are also going to see some of parallels that were constructed between the original and this remake.
There are actually several different things that you are going to want to consider about this film, from its new faces to its commitment to the consistencies. The best thing to begin with, is the plot synopsis intertwined with a little bit of facts about the film that you might have cared to learn about. Be mindful, though, this will likely contain some spoilers for those that have not seen the film.
As the film begins, you are introduced briefly to Dean who is trying to get a refill on his coffee at a diner. Really, Dean is dreaming and you are about to meet the antagonist, Freddy Krueger. Dean manages to wake up, though, and tells his girlfriend Kris that someone in his dreams is trying to kill him. She thinks he is crazy until she watches Dean kill himself very awkwardly right in front of her. He is screaming “You’re not real! You’re not real!”
Soon the panic sets in among the groups, and there are so many theories about what actually happened that it becomes difficult to see who is being affected by Dean’s death. Soon, everyone who is having separate conversations with each other realize that the same man is haunting their dreams, Freddy Krueger.
Now the body count is rising and more and more about Krueger is coming to light. While their dreams were terrifying, they managed to give each of them pieces of the puzzle towards stopping Freddy. Nancy learns that she can pull things out of her dreams, and this spawns a showdown with the madman back where her nightmare began as a small child.
There are all kinds of scenes that parallel the original, and they fit seamlessly into this release. One of the most noteworthy things to keep in mind about this new release would be the replacement of Robert Englund, the original and only Freddy Krueger. The re-imagining is masterfully constructed by Jackie Earle Haley portraying the same Freddy Krueger we have all grown to fear, but with a new look and some new lines.
Learning about A Nightmare on Elm Street 2010 is not difficult, and if you are a horror fan you should certainly check it out. While there might be more to consider than what is listed here, this should give you a little more insight into one of the best horror remakes in quite some time.
